Well, we have survived the first week of school. Hooray! The kids are
settling into a routine and so am I. I love schedules and would be lost
without one! Part of my daily planning and organizing includes what to
list on the website each week and carving out time each day for filling
orders. It's very fulfilling work and I love ending the day feeling
accomplished.

Fun Raw Edge Quilt In Blue and Green

This is a quilt I made from a class I took at a local quilt shop recently. I've been itching to stitch for quite some time now but life tends to get in the way sometimes. So I signed up for a quilting class with a friend a couple of weeks ago to force myself to take a break and get something done! This cute blue, green and brown quilt was the result. The class was quite simple and something I'd never tried before.
We first started with scores of little 2 1/2 inch squares. We drew a grid on the background fabric and then glued the squares down in the corner of each grid. We basted the quilt ahead of time with some spray adhesive so no pesky pins were in our way. Once the quilt sandwich was ready and all the squares were in place we stitched across the top of all the squares, first on one side across the whole quilt, then on the other. The effect was a sort of raw edge, raggy style quilt. It only looks like I pieced all those tiny sashes! In reality that's the background fabric peeking through. I always love trying new techniques and I was very pleased with the results. I gave it to a friend this weekend who's expecting a boy, and it matches her nursery perfectly!

Look What We Made!

Last night some friends and I gathered together to whip up some cute baby blankies for new moms in our church. I had never done this type of sewing before but it was quick, easy and very satisfying! We just took two pieces of flannel fabric, stitched some ric-rac in between and then top-stitched around the edges. There was no batting or binding to fuss with and they all turned out super-cute! Each one took less than an hour to complete and we were able to finish seven of them in one night. What a fun service project!

It's a new month so it's time to clear out the old to make way for this
month's new arrivals. If you haven't seen my clearance section lately,
you are in for a treat! At last count, there were over 150 different
fabrics all marked down from 20% to 50% off the original price. Whenever
I add a group of fabrics to clearance, it starts off with a minimum 20%
discount. Then every few weeks I "up the ante" until it sells out. This
keeps my inventory fresh and allows you to scoop up some good bargains
in the process. As the weather starts to turn cooler and fall sewing
gets underway, be sure to stock up on the basics. And remember to buy
enough fabric to finish your projects including borders, bindings and
backings for your quilts.

The kids go back to school today and it's a very exciting time for us.
We now have two boys in middle school and our youngest, our daughter,
will be all by herself in elementary school. That means different
schedules, plus lots of driving and homework help! I am ready for it
though. I spent all last week organizing our upstairs loft area. Half of
it is for me with my sewing machine, fabric bins and lots of storage
shelves for my goodies. The other half is a play and work area for the
kids. They all finally have their own workspaces and bookshelves so they
don't have to share. My hope is to work during they day while they are
gone, and sew in the afternoons while they are doing homework. That way
I'm available for them when they need me but I can still play with my
fabric at the same time!
